The sadness I experienced in Potosí was unlike anything I had ever felt during my trip. After nearly two days of travelling from north of Argentina to South of Bolivia, I felt exhausted, hungry and very sick. Of course, Potosí’s altitude at 4000m above sea level didn’t ease things either.
It was hard to fathom that this city was once the richest source of silver in the world, only to be completely plundered by the Spanish Empire. Above is the view of Cerro Rico from my hotel room.
